Funky lobby rooms nice modern features.. Is on the fringe of a sketchy area but close to nice part of market street and union sq. quite a few bums about but isnt a prob close to cable car turn-around and BART station to get u from airport.. cheap funky hotel if u are in SF if u get a good price i would recommend

We called to make a reservations at the Metropolis because we thought it looked like a cool, modern hotel BUT we encountered the most horrible, rudest phone person in the whole world!!!!!!!!!! We called a couple times to ask various questions and the employee yelled at us and said "I already told you three times!" This is his job and this is normal in the arenas of vacationing and visiting a new city so please don't stay there until they fire the crappy employees or hire friendly ones.

Since my husband and I are both architects, I was excited to stay at this moderately priced hotel. I ignored the comments about the dodgy location (it is pretty bad, but still pretty convenient to Union Square). The service was horrible and rude. The topper several minor slights, was when we checked our bags into "storage" because our flight was in the early evening. Our bags, were left behind the conceirge desk all day in plain sight. I would never go back, or recommend this hotel to anyone. Spend an extra $50 a night and stay somewhere else.
