San Francisco > San Francisco Hotels > Book this hotelThe Pickwick Hotel hotel description>>
Lousy experience and ruined vacation due to the unfriendly staff at the Pickwick. Had confirmed reservations and after arriving was told they "overbooked" the hotel. They basically said "too bad" and sent my family to another hotel which was in a terrible neighborhood 5 blocks away. The Pickwick is surrounded by homeless people in the streets but the hotel I was sent to was in a crime ridden/homeless area. NEVER will I go back to the Pickwick and you should not either.
I reserved and confirmed a room with 2 double beds for 2 guests. We checked in with no problem, but when we opened our door we only had a tiny room with one bed! We met with an unfriendly and uncompromising manager who told us that we either had to pay for another room or both stay in one (we're coworkers so staying in the same bed would have been a little unprofessional!). We ended up having to pay for another room - double what we wanted. We were visiting 3 friends, whom we had visit us (during the day) in the hotel on a number of occassions. I guess the manager didn't like this because he pulled me aside on entering the lobby on the second day of our stay and told me that if more than 2 people were staying on our reservation then he would charge us $20 per night per guest. Quite uncalled for! The rooms were comfortable and the rest of the staff was very nice, and location was great. However, I would not stay at this hotel again due to the experience I had with the manager.
I stayed here in April 2003 for one night. Hotel staff was adequate but unfriendly. Given room on top floor near the fire exit with terrible view of an alley down below. The room reeked of cigarette smoke even though I had specifically asked for a non-smoking room. Room itself was large but bathroom is very very tiny (although clean). The furniture in the room was very worn and somewhat dirty. The walls are apparently very thin, as I was kept up during the night by neighbors laughing and partying loudly. I was woken up to the sound of maids vaccuming and genenrally being very loud cleaning a next door room. Trying to take a shower was impossible. The water kept turning on and off and going from hot to cold...very very frustrating. Overall a very disappointing experience and I was glad to be leaving. Location is convenient, steps for Powell St. BART station but felt unsafe walking there past the many many homeless in the street... |
