San Francisco > San Francisco Hotels > Book this hotelSavoy Hotel hotel description>>
We really liked this hotel. We weren't too sure on the location when we first arrived, but the staff were so friendly and helpful and the room was a lovely size. We only spent three nights there, but we really couldn't fault it. THe lift/elevator is REALLY slow, and we could hear the people in the corridors from the room. But even that didn't spoil our stay there.
My husband went to law school and lived in SF in the late 60s. We were married at SF City Hall in the late 70s and we visit 3 to 4 times a year. The Savoy is definitely a plus in our book. It's old and friendly, clean and unique. The location is awesome and the service very good. The feather covers and pillows rock! The corner suite rooms are very nice. The person that complained about the Savoy doesn't know how to travel and enjoy. I bet if they went to Europe, they would complain that English isn't spoken. Sure you can pay more and get a "pristine" hotel without the creaky floor, but give me some character, regular folk and a SF feeling anytime.
A friend and I spent New Year's at this property and were impressed with our room. We had a standard room facing a neighboring room, which I secured on the hotel's website for $129/night. I felt we got terrific value for our money. Sure, the room was small-ish, but our movements were hardly restricted. The incredibly comfortable feather bed and pillows were worth every penny of our rate. Both the room itself and the bathroom were clean and spotless. The hotel's staff were friendly (I've never encountered rude staff anywhere in over 300 hotel stays, and I tend to attribute rudeness to the objectionable behavior of other guests, which I've seen on so very many occasions, rather than the typical hotel clerk) and the afternoon wine and cheese service is a marvelous and satisfying -- not to mention refreshing -- touch. The fact that Millennium, for my tastes the very finest vegan restaurant anywhere, is part of the property was just (dairy-free) icing on the cake.Upon check-out, I made reservations for a two-night stay in February for a deluxe suite for just $99/night. I'm can't wait! |
